High Court Delivers Huge Win to DACA recipients, Big Defeat for the White Supremacist-in-Chief. Presente.org Demands Permanent Protection for All Undocumented Youth

Statement from Presente.org’s Executive Director, Matt Nelson:

“The Trump Administration dramatically overstepped its bounds in a politically motivated and racist plan to end the DACA program. We’re thankful that the Supreme Court ruled to block the administration’s reckless and callous overreach. This is an incredible and direct result of decades-long work of courageous DREAMers, activists, and volunteers — alongside millions of supporters. The White Supremacist-in-Chief’s cowardly and disgusting plan to end DACA was defeated, for now.

“Hundreds of thousands of undocumented people living in the U.S. protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, including 30,000 healthcare workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, are now more safe from the brutal, racist deportation machine of the Trump Administration. Our children, our brothers and sisters, our friends and neighbors — DREAMers who are rightly seen as heroes — built the power and momentum to win in the highest court today.

“Undocumented youth need permanent protection, and should not be at the whim of election-season race-baiting and political gamesmanship. At a moment when Black people are leading a powerful movement for justice and transformational change, it’s time to reimagine immigration and enforcement, which includes putting an end to any measures that force undocumented communities to remain in a state of ever-present danger.”
